Hotels in Addis Ababa to Offer Up to 40% Discounts for Irecha Festival Guests

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In anticipation of the upcoming Irecha festival, hotels across the capital city are gearing up to welcome visitors with special discounts of up to 40%. This annual celebration, an important cultural event for the Oromo community, is expected to attract thousands of attendees to Addis Ababa next Saturday.

According to the Addis Ababa Culture, Arts, and Tourism Bureau, the city’s hotels will offer these significant discounts to festival-goers, enhancing their overall experience during the vibrant Irecha festivities. The bureau recently submitted a formal request to the Addis Ababa Hotel Owners Association, urging its members to participate in the discount program.

The president of the association, Mrs. Esther Solomon, shared with Ethiopia Insider that the message has been passed along to all 170 member hotels. “It is common practice for hotels to offer discounts during major holidays, particularly when a large number of visitors are expected,” she explained. “For Irecha, the hotels are not mandated to provide discounts, but many have enthusiastically embraced the initiative by offering packaged deals for guests.”

The Irecha festival, a celebration of thanksgiving and unity, traditionally takes place in the town of Bishoftu but has also been held in Addis Ababa in recent years. The festivities draw people from across the country and abroad, and this year is no exception, with hotels preparing to accommodate the surge in visitors.

Mrs. Solomon emphasized that while the discounts are voluntary, the collaboration between hotels and the tourism office highlights the city’s commitment to promoting its cultural heritage and making the Irecha holiday more accessible to all attendees. Several hotels have already announced tailored packages, combining discounted room rates with additional perks for guests.

The festival not only serves as a spiritual and cultural gathering but also as a boost for local businesses, including the hospitality industry. As the city braces for the influx of visitors, the offer of discounted accommodations is expected to enhance Addis Ababa’s reputation as a welcoming destination during Ethiopia’s festive seasons.

Festival-goers are encouraged to check with individual hotels for specific offers and packages, as these may vary between establishments.

With the colorful celebrations of Irecha just days away, both local and international visitors can look forward to an enriching cultural experience—made even more affordable by the hospitality industry’s warm gesture.
