Addis Ababa, June 8, 2024 — The Yared School of Music proudly celebrated a milestone event today with the inauguration of the Ashenafi Kebede Performing Arts Center. This new facility honors the legacy of Ashenafi Kebede, a distinguished artist and the first director of the Yared Music School, and aims to continue his mission of advancing musical arts in Ethiopia.
The ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, prominent figures in the arts and education sectors, as well as government officials and international guests. The highlight of the event was a speech by Girma Yifrashewa, the new center’s director, who emphasized the importance of connecting the rich musical heritage of Ethiopia with contemporary and future musical expressions.
“The Ashenafi Kebede Performing Arts Center is not just a building; it is a symbol of our commitment to nurturing and celebrating Ethiopian music,” said Yifrashewa. “As we honor the past, we also look forward to fostering new talents and innovations in the musical arts.”

In his address, Yifrashewa highlighted the crucial role of music in society. “The arts are essential in all our institutions.
